When planning a hospital water birth, there are are a few golden rules we suggest following ⬇️

You need generally 30 minutes to get into our local hospitals, set up the pool and fill it with water!

SO! With that being said. And with many of you still wanting labour at home it’s a fine dance we do 🩰

1️⃣ If it’s your second or third+ baby, leave as soon as you feel anything you consider spicy! They have a good rhythm and you need a hip squeeze? LEAVE THE HOUSE!

2️⃣ For your first, utilize calling your midwife and having them come to your home before you head into the hospital! This saves you the trip and can allow you to be where you feel safest the longest!

3️⃣ Let your contractions fully need your focus and aim to head in around that 7cm pre transition point! This is the golden point!

⚡️Pattern? Strong, consistent and powerful.

⚡️Coping skills? You need ALL the help and maybe start to feel some pressure! Amazing!

Pool wise? The moment you get there blow it up and set up your liner + hoses! You can start to fill at the advice of your care team/doula and voila, the beauty of physiological water birth 🌊

as a birth pool company, we get lots of questions about how to have this experience after having a previous C-section and we see many of you achieve it! so here you go ⬇️

1️⃣, ensuring you have a midwife & doula for the best success!!! An OB is a great option if you are higher risk but the hospital system usually doesn’t welcome pools. We want a team who is truly supportive and willing to ride the ups and downs in your journey. who isn’t just VBAC tolerant!!!

2️⃣, research continuous versus intermittent monitoring!! when choosing a HBAC, you are declining continuous monitoring which does carry risk - but also carries trust in your body. @ebbirth has great research on this and it is a BIG decision! ( HBAC = home birth after c-section )

3️⃣, work for it and go all in!!! chiro. pelvic floor. accupuncture. birth education. hypnobirthing. get your partner on board. podcasts. the VBAC Facebook groups. doing the hard work. you can do it!!! and it’s worth it!!!

4️⃣, realize not everyone will have a VBAC and that is okay! the goal is to always keep you all safe, and sometimes plan changes. and sometimes things get hard. do not weigh your value as a parent from your birth experience! be open. be creative. surrender. and put in the work!
